Hanging out in Tokyo at the moment, on a work trip. Not my first time here, but I have The Sprawl on my mind at the moment – and this place really is the archetype, isn’t it? This really is the Sprawl… both bright and shiny and dark and dirty, corporate culture everywhere…

Every time I see a picture of Tokyo or Hong Kong, I get that impression. I’m hoping to visit at least one of those cities in the next few years.
Take a look at a picture of the Shanghai skyline at night and the have a contrast of a shack city akin to anything found in a Neil Blomkamp film, that to me, that’s a cyberpunk world. Technology exists only to help those who have access to it completely.

Of course, I’m sitting in the middle of the corporate culture right now… a huge open-plan office filled with small desks occupied by folks in suits (which regrettably includes me).
So different from the relaxed environment back home, wearing shorts over summer, and with never a tie to be seen… 🙂
