First up, crusty hides makes the Outlander sound a bit silly, I’d go for something like rare furs. Still in keeping with the character, but sounds almost rich, like they’re wearing something that a totally different kind of person would be like, “nice threads, man!”
An Outlander in rare furs can walk into a noble court and not get laughed at.
Plus I think it would be appropriate, and hilarious, if on the who has shown me civilisation…, you write history-2.
