Hrmm, what would be the best PbtA game to do for Cthulhutech.
Lovecraftian magic and Sanity mechanic.
Anime mecha and psionics.
the doom and gloom of Lovecraft and Evangelion but with the slim hope of victory a la Macross or other anime?
(I will note I do tend to prefer Lovecraftian elements when the defeat of the Old Ones is difficult but possible…I love Punching Out Cthulhu…to use a trope name)
I’d start with The Regiment 2.2 and make mecha into weapons and a few points of armor, rather than vehicles.
Base AW with a thin tech skin?
yeah this sounds like apocalypse world! weird is already p close to a sanity mechanic. make some threat moves about “when you encounter X roll +cool or Y mindbreak happens”
there’s an official mecha playbook, space marine mammal, and it wouldn’t be hard to skin the driver & gunlugger & maybe even operator that way.
psionics is already there.
hocus as a miskatonic professor with a following of graduate assistants

(the scribd link given by Grégory Pogorzelski, the author of this hack, is still active)
cool, thanks all
You can make an entire hack, or use AW as a base (basic moves, the playbooks), then add and take as you see fit.
I used to be big on massive hacks, but now I think it’s all in the basic moves, and if it isn’t for sale they needn’t be perfect.
Plus The Psychic Maelstrom is whatever you need it to be. In this case, it’s making contact with that which man should not!
I tend to be fond of settings where punching out cthulhu and defeating such things is a viable story direction. I’m not actually big on cosmic horror but the Lovecraft entities make fun enemies.
