I have a questions on the class of an item.

I have a questions on the class of an item.

I have a questions on the class of an item. Other than giving narrative baseline for how difficult certain items are to get and their overall worth (and awesomely saying we are carrying class 3 goods when docking), is there anything else it does? if you have a custom class 3 sword can you use that in a barter roll to trade it away for something else? just wondering.

Thanks!

  1. In normal circumstances, only Cargo can be traded as part of an Acquisition or Barter. For all other Assets, the Class merely determines how many upgrades it has.

That said, in the course of the narrative there will certainly be opportunities for direct trades, especially as a cost/consequence of a 7-9 Acquisition (or a 10+ with unfriendly traders)

  2. I have personally had a handful of Big Deal items count as cargo for the purposes of trade deals. But I think that’s rare. AKA the Firefly Laseter (?) Pistol

  3. Now you know how I feel when you beat me to the punch of answering questions /shakes fist

/mutters to self Dang players knowing the rules better than me. Grumble grumble.

In hindsight, I wish I had made the “Stylish” Asset tag more explicitly linked to worth. Like called it “Valuable” or something, tied it semi-mechanically to the Cargo, Barter and Acquisition systems. Ah well, perfect is the opposite of done, etc etc.

  4. Now in our game, we decide that there was currency available in various forms. The one form that’s always good, even in non-Imperial territories, are Imperial Credits. But instead of actually enumerating how many ImpCreds one has, we rate them based on class: Class 1, Class 2, Class 3. A Class 1 quantity of ImpCreds can buy a Class 1 good.

We haven’t determined whether or not it takes three Class 1 ImpCreds to equal 1 Class 3 item, or whether Classes are exponential: Class 2 is the square of Class 1, Class 3 is the cube of Class 1, etc.

    Example, assume that Class 1 is about 100 IC. Class 2 is 100 x 100, or 10,000 IC. And that Class 3 is 100 x 100 x 100 or 1,000,000 IC.
