What are people’s thoughts on playing a synthetic character like Data or a Geth from Mass Effect? Would you allow it or do you think it would be too hard to make work with the rules? Personally I think I would allow it in a game, as long as they’re roughly humanoid.

I’d absolutely allow it. Nothing really hard about it at all. All you need to do is talk to them about their synthetic character, and ask interesting questions:
>Which Faction made you?
>What are people’s views, generally, about artificial life? Trust, no trust, what?
>Are you meant to be functionally as life-like as possible, or are you meant to be as useful a machine as possible, or what? You were built for a purpose, what was that purpose?
And so on. I’d just work with them to figure out what we’re talking about, and I’d keep it in mind whenever it comes time to judge whether a Move triggers or not.
Like the clones in my setting, you should explore questions of ownership and slavery. Are you a ‘free’ machine, owned, three laws compliant, etc.
