This is a very silly and stupid question but just trying to wrap my head around starting corporation clocks when doing the Links bit.
Basically just trying to confirm that the first mention of a corp is essentially a freebie? The book says that you “start a corporation clock” for the corp but I’m assuming that means you don’t fill any of it. So in the unlikely event I mention doing a job with Corp A and then no one else joins in that Corp begins with its clock at 1200 not 1500?
Woah that’s not how I was interpreting that at all. The instructions in Links mention that you pick an existing corporation not a new one. Also if you look at the examples it does appear that the first “pick” is a freebie. For example, Takumi starts off by describing a mission with Existence entertainment and two people join in. The clock is then described as being at 1800 i.e. two advances yet three people involved.
Also I didn’t know the person on the left had to join in so cheers for pointing that out!
At least 1 character has to join in on the mission, so it will always increase the clock by at least 1, even after the initial ‘freebie’ that simply establishes the clock.
Yup which makes sense. I guess there’s still the possibility of some Corps going unselected though
True. In fact, they can’t select all the Corps because there will always be one more Corp than there are players. I ended creating empty clocks for the ones that went unselected in my game.
Oh yeah of course there has to be one left unpicked.
The number of advances of a clock due to links is # of characters taking part – 1 or equal to the characters who were in a supporting role (since the player who came up with it is supposed to be leading or providing the key skill and hence is the star of the show).
Unless someone decides to undertake a mission against a Corp with an established Clock, then the initiation raises the Clock as well.
Rick Sorgdrager That is true. Haven’t seen that come up in play, maybe for a con game where everyone is okay with the game blowing up in a single session?
My players decided they wanted immediate conflict with Simsensual; the simsense adult entertainment corp. It happens, haha.
