Okay, tired GM brain could use some assistance. I’m transitioning a FATE Core Bulldogs! game to Uncharted Worlds (I like FATE Core, on paper, but when I sit down at the table, I just…don’t. PbtA for me!), and I’ve got a player who would like to keep the ‘Two Fisted Shooter’ type ability, because it’s space opera, and that’d be fun. How would you play that out in UW? We’re thinking something like two MAC-10s (again, because space opera), so they’re already Rapid Fire. How would you all make two of them special, mechanically?

  1. One option is to have them both count as a single Asset by using the just-invented-this-second Upgrade “Paired”.

    Twin MAC-10s

    Class 2 Pistol(s)

    – Rapid Fire: Unleashes suppressing fire at multiple targets.

    – Paired: Come as a pair, providing two arcs of fire when used together.

If the character wants to really invest in those twin guns, they can pick up a Unique weapon from the Military career and get a Class 3 Paired pistol set.

  2. Also: Why did I not think of “Paired” before now argh!

Also also: “Paired” is going into FBH as an upgrade for Pistols and Melee Weapons.

  3. John Woo wielding would be the move. Usually flying through the air emptying the magazines at a prodigious rate. Guaranteed to empty your pistols in one round.

  4. Sean Gomes

Well, given that any two pistols could be paired like that, it does seem more like a character choice / specialty than a weapon one.

My own inclination is to just let it play out in narrative rather than worry about mechanics. “you just single-handedly mowed all the mutants down unleashing bullet hell, but you aren’t going to have time to reload both guns before the next wave arrives…”

I’d probably also consider whether a character has some experience or training in the technique before letting them even trigger the move, or require some extra prerequisite rolls until they “get the hang of it”, etc etc.

Same as how someone not trained in medicine probably can’t neutralize poison shock without (for example) an extra Interface roll to look up the procedure on the med-computer.
