Another rules question – is mil specs +2 against an individual and +1 against a small squad (less than a gang), or is it +1 against both?

  1. Milspecs means you count as a “small gang”.

That means the Killer with milspecs inflicts +1 harm against individuals, +0 harm against small gangs, -1 harm against medium gangs and so on.

(A normal character would inflict +0 harm against individuals, -1 harm against small gangs, -2 harm against medium gangs, and so on.

A medium gang inflicts +2 harm against an individual, +1 harm against a small gang, +0 harm against medium gangs, -1 harm against large gangs, and so on.)

On this scale there is no such thing as a “small squad”: characters and NPCs are either individuals or count as “gangs” of various sizes.)

  2. got it. was just confused by p. 139 where it says “a handful of people are a step below a small gang” – wasn’t sure if an individual was a further step below that, but it appears not. Thanks!

  3. Junk Addy Heh, yup, my first Angel in AW had the equivalent cross-playbook move.

That wording on p.139 is unfortunate. I was trying to clarify that a group of PCs don’t count as a small gang, but I should have done so explicitly to avoid this other confusion!

  4. No, I just read too much into everything. I probably have asked more of these pedantic rules questions than most.

I initially read it as +1, as intended. But I think I heard a podcast (maybe FatT?) describe mil specs as +2, and I couldn’t get it out of my head and I couldn’t be sure.

More recently, I started watching Once Upon a Game and I couldn’t figure out the math when they were discussing one of the characters dealing 6 harm unarmed, unless they were treating mil specs as +2. Hence the question.
