Rather minor/inane question: Which works better as a term that encompasses super vehicles like mega-tanks, grav platforms, airships and mecha?
Creating a Vessel
Designing a Vessel follows a similar process as creating an Asset
• Choose a form to define how the Vessel moves.
• Select upgrades to define what the Vessel can do.
• Determine the Vessel’s tier based on the number of upgrades.
• Assign Sections for Tier II and higher.
vs
Creating a Greater Vehicle
Designing a Greater Vehicle follows a similar process as creating an Asset
• Choose a form to define how the Greater Vehicle moves.
• Select upgrades to define what the Greater Vehicle can do.
• Determine the Greater Vehicle’s tier based on the number of upgrades.
• Assign Sections for Tier II and higher.
I like GV because it gives range (greater) and scope (vehicles.)
Platform vehicles?
Combat platform?
Did you already consider and discard “Craft”?
hdp Craft feels smaller than Vehicle, while Vessel (or “Wessel”) felt bigger
Yeah, actually, I remember thinking of that myself, but I forgot 🙂
“Platform”? (doesn’t have to be combat, right?)
Part of the problem here for me is that I don’t think of mega-tanks and mecha as being in the same category as airships (I’m not sure what a grav platform is), but it’s possible I don’t have the right references in mind.
I prefer “Greater Vehicle” of the two, although “Greater” as an adjective seems poorly suited to the setting. I expect Greater Demons and Greater Magic Missiles, but a Greater Vehicle feels odd. It doesn’t feel like a term characters in most space opera settings would ever actually use.
Can I cast a vote for something like “Ubervehicle”? Or even “supervehicle?”
EDIT: Although I can live with “vessel” as long as it also encompasses ordinary starships.
Chris Wilson Indeed. These rules can be used to build more granular Starships as well (entirely optional, but I know that floats some people’s boats)
In that case I’m warming up more to Vessel as a catch-all for everything too big for the “regular” vehicle mechanics.
Hi Sean. I’d personally call the big stuff, “Titans” collectively.
Titan suggest something big, and dangerous, and more than likely to inspire terror. 🙂
Or “Creating a Titan Class Vehicle”. Hope this helps.
Man this is hard, I like Vessel as a catch-all term for anything (like Kaiju) and Greater vehicle.
I also like “Titans” (Bio-Titan) or Super-heavy Vehicle but i guess it’s might infringe on Warhammer 40k copyright ?
Warhammer also copyrighted the words “Archon”, “Ultramarine” and “Ragnarok” so I have no idea what’s enforceable (the ancient Norse will be in for a shock when the world ends and they’re served cease and desist papers by GW)
Daniel Fors I can’t find any mention of Titan being copyrighted, but IANAL. Titanic-Class perhaps ? Giga Vessel ?
If GW hasn’t copyrighted “Titan” as a mech then it’s probably uncopyrightable as a word, even by GWs baffling standards.
Right now I’m with this doubt.
I want to make a Stormhammer (or similar) for a character.
From what I see it is better to make a Vessel Tier II
Does a Land Rider class 2 have the same value as a Vessel II?
