Hi Everyone.

Hi Everyone.

Hi Everyone. I’ve been working on an AW hack set in an alternate roman empire where magic and myth are real. Quickstart rules are up for free at http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/208332/Ruma-Dawn-of-Empire-Quickstart-Rules

Still playtesting and working on some of the mechanics (especially the magus playbook), but am planning on a kickstarter to start on May 2nd.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

  1. Yes Kalysto. Looks like I accidentally cut the influence roll for PCs when I was cutting the advanced section for each of the basic moves. I’m still working on the experience rules for the game which will affect the carrot and stick choices when trying to influence a fellow PC. Thanks for bringing up the omission. Much appreciated.

  2. Funny to feel Tremulus and dungeon world influence without saying apocalypse world too.

Interesting quickstart, perhaps a little too short because it’s difficult to know if it will be mostly like DW with scenario or like AW more free.

  3. Definitely influenced by DW, along with Legacy by James Isles. The setting has some depth and provides a framework, but leaves a lot open to each group since the magical roman empire genre is fairly generic.

I am a Roman citizen, and I can guarantee that here, in Italy, the word “Ruma” is quite ridiculous 🙂 Could you use “Roma” instead?

  5. Martin Greening I love the concept (as others said, it brings back memory of an old italian fantasy rpg set in rome that I used to really like).

However, as an Italian myself, I have to agree with Diego Barretta: Ruma as a name sounds kinda funny 🙂 (I also understand if this doesn’t concern you)

  6. I appreciate the comments about the name. I went with Ruma for a few reasons. Wanted it to evoke a little more than an alternate history (the world fo Ruma is not our world). Didn’t want to step on other games that use Roma in their title. And a few people polled felt Roma reminded them of the Romani people rather than the Roman Empire. I hope that makes sense. It was a tough decision between Roma and Ruma.

  7. Martin Greening I get what you are saying, and actually I wasn’t suggesting Roma as a name (after all it’s the name of the city in the real world and this is a fantasy world): if you should ever considering changing the name in something that could sound better as italianish or latinish, feel free to ask…otherwise, no biggie 😀
