  1. From the core book “Your drives work almost like an alternate advancement track—even if you aren’t there yet on your normal advances, when they’re all gone you have to change playbooks, retire, or become a paragon.” This implies that you have to strike out all of them, otherwise it would have said, when all marked drives are gone.

  2. Yeah, the word All is the operative word here. If it were just eight it would say something like “once all chosen Drives are” or something similar.

  3. Hmm. It’s a shame because a couple of additional words (either “and so on” if it’s all 20 drives, or “when all 8 drives” if it’s just 8) would have made it clear. Doing all 20 makes sense if it’s an alternate advancement track, but the lack of choice for the player irks me–it goes against the advice on page 93 of the core book: “…make sure you pick drives that really interest you.” Still, Masks seems to be designed for short campaigns, so that might not come up–I have no idea how fast a player might tick off drives.

  4. I think the point of eventually going after all of the drives is more representative of the beacon chasing the excitement of being a hero. The idea that the first drives they pick is what they were most interested in doing in the beginning but as they go on they start looking for new things to do to keep the experience fresh.

  5. My GM and I misinterpreted that one… I had done a Beacon with the plan to burn through 8 drives ASAP, then switch to Doomed and absolutely run her into the ground in pursuit of vengeance (unless her team helped her let go of the anger of course). We didn’t end up getting that far, but I still like that concept… Oh well.
