So after asking around the other day and hearing who all had played The Watch so far, I decided to even the scales a little bit and now have an all-trans group of players together! We’ll be playing in the next week; will report back!

Fuck yea! That’s so cool.
Any tips for one-shot play? I know Urban Shadows suggests pre-filling the Corruption track to some extent; should I do the same with Jaded?
I would invite players to do so, yea. With a one-shot, you’ll want to keep the setting creation time tight, stick to the big questions and let the smaller details come out during play. Anna Kreider, anything else you’d add?
Holy shit that’s awesome!!
When running one-shots, here’s how I handle it. First, tell players you’re going to push through character and world creation quickly to maximize play time. It helps to set expectations.
Second, I have a set formula I use when running one-shots. Start with the rescue an elder mission, except when they save her, they find themselves behind enemy lines with the elder under some sort of dark spell. They’ll spend a while unfucking that situation and getting back to camp. Give them a bit to blow off steam, make reports, etc, and when there’s about 60 minutes left, make your move by starting the second mission – Defend a Fort, except it’s their own, against a surprise attack by Shadow forces.
If you have any hard moves, feel free to inflict harm on players before starting. And if the players fail extra hard and I get a complication, I like to kill the Watch Commander, just because it makes for a dramatic ending. By the time you tie up the mission, that gives you a good amount of time to wrap things up and have some nice character moments.
Usually I find people want to keep going, so I wrap the session on asking people what is the last shot we see of their character during the “end credits music”, during the “NEXT TIME ON THE WATCH” preview of “next week’s episode”.
I also always make sure to allow for discussion at the end of the slot/evening, since that’s always a thing people want to have.
Hopefully that helps?
(And obviously, this is just how I do it. Feel free to do whatever.)
Update: Bigger turnout then expected! Every single playbook is gonna be in use!
Pray for me?
Keeping all my fingers crossed!!
You got this!
