Hello all I’m new to the Powered by the Apocalypse games. Is there a game similar to the Walking Dead that is pbta?
Thanks

Personally I would play it using Apocalypse World straight up. But I know for sure that there are some hacks out there more in line with what you’re hoping for.
Here’s one I found by googling, Zombie Apocalypse PbtA:

I’d probably just start with Apocalypse World itself and decide you’ve got a zombie apocalypse. Or does that not fit what you’re looking for in some way?
Chad Stevens not to speak for the author, but since they mention “Walking Dead” I think there’s quite a bit of gameplay around the psychic maelstrom that falls outside of the scope of the campaign, and trimming it on the fly could imbalance some things.
There will be a game called “Zombie World” by Magpie Games. It will be Kickstarted probably still this year. It’s pretty much Walking Dead: the PbtA Game.
“End of the World” by Gremlin Legions is my go-to suggestion anytime anybody wants to do that kind of high drama, human driven, scarcity apocalypse rather than the more over-the-top gonzo action of classic Apocalypse World. There’s a link on their blog to get it http://gremlinlegions.blogspot.com/p/game-hacks.html
Pedro Pereira Ooh, I like Magpie.
Another vote for straight AW; just need to think of something not-too-magical to replace the psychic maelstrom.
Sweet! Thanks all. I’ll check out AW 1st then the ZombieApocalypse kickstarter.
Lemmo Pew You’re right. I hadn’t even thought about the psychic angle.
Chad Stevens I only even thought of it because I tried before. ; )
I can verify that Magpie is working on a new zombie PbtA game. We’ll have some info on it later this year after we get a few existing products out the door.
Friends. AW2, and the maelstrom turns you into a zombie if you are exposed too long. Easy-peasy.
I ran a Walking Dead inspired AW game. For the psychic maelstrom, we interpreted it as flashbacks to your life before the apocalypse, especially memories of people who are now dead.
And we had a custom move for if you were ever in a fight with a zombie: 10+ you’re good, 7-9 you think you’re good, 6- you got bit and need to lose a limb or die.
I love that, Clinton. I’m gonna steal that some day.
That’s cool, Clinton N. Dreisbach, but sounds a bit too harsh for my tastes. Did you end up with a walking party of people with missing limbs? I presume the PCs stayed the fuck away from any physical confrontation. It certainly sounds realistic, given the assumptions of the setting.
Pedro Pereira In retrospect, I think I only applied the move if someone took damage in a conflict with zombies, but in action, it meant characters did more avoiding zombies or shooting zombies than hand-to-hand combat with zombies.
Mark Diaz Truman Sounds like my kind of thing! Offering my services in advance if you need them. 🙂
