  1. Personally, I’m more interested in the possibility of really gonzo settings – something like Larry Niven’s Integral Trees, or a collapse from magic/tech fusion like the In-World of the Dark Tower series.

  2. To elaborate; I’m slapping together a “test” run just to familiarize myself with things, and have my Homeland parked somewhere in what was Poland before the Fall. The Order is a chivalric bunch of wannabe dragonslayers cooped up in a ruined Teutonic castle, I’m trying to conceptualize a bunch of Pioneers living in the Baltic Sea, and then my last one or two Families are still up in the air.

  3. A mundane setting can work very well – one of my own early games was set around a car-building factory in detroit! I went with an alien setting for the quickstart to underline that it can be a much weirder setting than other post-apoc games, but especially playing in the Ruins mode an earth-based near-future game can work very well.

  4. It is unclear whether our homeland is set on Earth, our reality, or somewhere else. I am leaving it open depending in how the game goes.

  5. Lex Permann… the beauty is to find out! Decide the allowed modes, let them pick Families and soon you will have a map. From there on, things will settle and you will all divine the location together.

A Ruins mode most likely will resemble somewhere on Earth, but that’s not a guarantee 🙂
