So I’ve been doing some investigations of different character generation systems by taking the same character concept over and over. Most recently did Masks.

And really not sure why it’s pulling that picture up.

  1. It’s a good write-up, and I appreciate unpacking the differences between the playbooks; I see a lot of players picking playbooks based on ability selection alone when another playbook would tell the story better.

Incidentally, one of my back-burner character ideas is a lamia, but I actually have her pegged as a Bull rather than a Transformed, since her main struggle is with being an engine of predatory rage and body image isn’t really an issue. I see it as, non-Transformed can look monstrous (just like non-Bulls can be angry and non-Delinquents can be rebellious), so long as looking monstrous (or being angry and rebellious) isn’t the focus of who they are.

It’s one of the cool things about the system; the playbooks are there to inspire and shape, not to restrict and call dibs on certain shticks (especially if they aren’t in play, though that’s a separate discussion).

  2. What a fun experiment. I really like how you talk about the thought process for picking the playbook (also looked at the MotW version and how that went for comparison).
