Just complete our +-20 games run of masks.

Just complete our +-20 games run of masks. It was a blast, our heroes completed their story arc, and the players were really happy.

We ran using an open table type system (3-5 players to have a game) with a pool of 9 players, 7 of which played till the end.

Anyway, that is all

  1. Congrats! My first attempt at running a MASKS campaign petered out after 4 sessions–half the players had gone so angsty with their character designs that playing another session just didn’t sound that fun.

  2. Hi Yan! Congratulations!

Sorry to comment on a post from so long ago, but I’m looking to start an open table myself, and I’m curious if you came up with anything special to make it work better?

    Thanks!

  3. Inanimate – Thanks

    – Keep arcs real short (1-2 episode at least)

    – Start all episode by describing the cover of the comic book issue. The price, the colors, where are the heroes, who is present. Give it a title

This helped set the tone and I used it to bring back NPC that had seen less screen time.

    – When players do something cool, stop the action and do an illustrator description. “The panel shows Red Flame flying towards the Meteorites, she impacts them with the power of the twin suns of her home planet.”

    – Schedule games in advance (2 weeks) let players register for them – I used facebook events, and then prepare the arcs that best fits the present crew. I told players that 3 people was the minimum and 5 the max. Some players will engage less but that’s alright.

    Have fun!

  4. I like the idea of shortened arcs without going completely episodic self-contained. And describing the covers really helps sell the ‘serial’ nature of such an open table. I love it!

Thank you for the great advice!
