First session is over, GREAT SUCCESS! The game is a hit with my group, really excited to try more Family stuff.
I have another question though. One of my players wanted to… “interrogate” (or torture, more likely) a prisoner as a character. I’m conflicted on what move would that trigger. Defuse doesn’t seem right?
I’d probably make it a Find Common Ground, with one of the conditions being “let me go” or “spare my life”.
Yeah that sounds like Find Common Ground if they’re doing it as a character. Or, y’know, if they’re dead set on torturing the prisoner, just give them a point of Data but tell them they have no idea how reliable it is, and then make a hard move when they spend it? After all, people being tortured tend to say anything to make it stop…
So glad to hear that!
Would you mind telling us about your Family combination and the Homeland you all created?
“What line are you ready to cross to get your prisioner to talk?” – and give them 1 Data.
Douglas Santana For sure! We have the “Zenith”, Servant of the True Faith devoted to restoring humanity and learning from the Fall; the “Bay Area Anarchist Book Fair”, Pioneer of the Depths dedicated to creating mystery and chaos in the world (think Fey of old folklore); the “Council of Steel”, Tyrant Kings who have one and only one objective, preventing the next Fall, no matter what; and finally the “Plundercats”, Gilded Merchants skilled in the trade of information and incidentally the only holders of a reliable form of communication in the Homeland (think the Snitch from Harry Potter visually, but capable of relaying information).
Our Homeland is an Archipelago with a couple of new players in the political scene: a stranded foreign army and a council of scientists from before the Fall (or so they say). There’s a broken space elevator, a crazy cult that wishes for a new, more improved Fall, and a ready-to-awaken volcano. All in all, a nice powder keg ready to explode 🙂
Thanks for all the advice! I’ll use the move that way, it does make sense now 🙂
Very dynamic indeed! 🙂
It seems your group might benefit a lot from Historians Characters, with their attention to information, culture and old knowledge!
