MOTW Syllabus?
Hi all, I was just wondering if there is a Monster of the Week “syllabus” similar to the Dungeon World syllabus that collects resources the community has made for running the game. Does it exist and is just hard to find, or does it not exist at all?
If it doesn’t exist, is it just because the community is much smaller, or is there some fundamental difference between DW and MOTW where similar resources wouldn’t be useful (or due to licensing differences…I know MOTW isn’t creative commons)?
It seems like a single document could include things like mystery starters, sample monsters, example questions to ask for each playbook, actual play samples, etc. I think it would reduce the barrier to entry for MOTW significantly.
Thanks in advance!
I don’t know the answer to this, unfortunately, but am also interested in hearing it!
Matt Brown I think you’re right about the community size – MotW has not received the same level of third party/fan writing as Dungeon World, although the burst of popularity over the past six months may make up for that soon.
Thanks for the reply and congrats on the attention it’s getting, I do love the system.
It seems like now is the time to lean forward into collecting the “best-of” community content while it’s got the visibility it does to encourage new players/GMs to start.
Matt Brown Let me know if I can help, Matt.
Mark Tygart Thanks Mark. I haven’t officially decided to take on this project, especially as there doesn’t seem to be much interest from the community. I plan to run my first MOTW game in August, so if I do something it will mostly be a side effect of my prep, but I’m not as familiar with what’s out there for MOTW vs. Dungeon World.
Do you have a Google Drive folder with all of your MOTW mysteries like you have for your DW starters?
