Hello!

Hello!

Hello!

I’ve played once before, and was so excited that I found some friends who I could be Keeper for.

For context: It’s my first time being a Keeper of GM of any type. Out of the three hunters, 2 have never played an RPG before, and one has played DnD several times.

I know the book suggests choosing a classic monster for the first mystery, but I got excited about an idea and ran with it. It’s intended to be a one-shot, to see if we like the game before committing to a campaign. With that in mind, I was thinking of giving the hunters 3 luck each.

Would y’all mind taking a look and seeing what I could change/improve? I have about 48 hours to make changes. The thing I’m most unsure about is the 5-day timeframe; I don’t know if the rigid schedule is a good idea.

I’m also happy to accept any first-time-keeper tips/advice, including letting me know if this might be a little difficult to run for a first timer.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Looks solid.

The advice to go for a classic monster is just a guideline – yours look good (they’re not very complicated, so it won’t be hard for the hunters to get a handle on things).

I’d say you should avoid giving any of the threats double types – pick the one that’s most important, if more than one could apply. The type is a reminder to yourself about how each threat will act, so the main motivation is normally enough.

  2. You have done a fantastic job with this Mystery.

I think you’re fine with the five day time frame. This is what would happen if the Hunters don’t show up. It doesn’t mean that it will take the Hunters five days to complete the mystery.

For instance, if things do sideways early in the hunt and the town starts to panic (perhaps the Hunters have failed while trying to calm Linda Matterson, and she goes to social media and starts a panic), the increased adrenaline steps up the attacks. Now the thrillclaws are harvesting faster than they would if the hunters hadn’t arrived. Basically, you would advance the countdown based on that fact, instead of the specified day.

If the Hunters pose a threat to the thrillclaws, perhaps they can hatch their young early, but the premature hatchlings are lethargic and Hunters gain a +1 ongoing against them until the hatchlings have fed on fresh prey,

Either way, you’ve done a great job outlining what would happen if the Hunters never arrived, and this gives you the tools you need to improvise once they show up and interfere with the thrillclaws’ plans.

  3. Thanks for looking it over and the advice! I’m really excited about running it.

Michael Sands that’s a helpful suggestion. I’ll narrow them down to single threat types.

Andrew Fish the social media panic is a great idea! I’ll keep that in mind. Re: the time frame, I received advice elsewhere to loosen it up a bit. So I’m thinking I’ll have the Midnight phase be an attack at one of the movies during the weekend long festival, instead of specifically at the first one.
