Hey, question: I’m currently running MonsterHearts 2 and a couple of my friends want to run some fan-created skins I think were developed for MonsterHearts 1. I was wondering would it be too much of a difference between systems to allow them to do so?
In particular one of them is interested in the calaca skin. Any experiences with this one?
A MH2 Calaca is in the works but it’ll be a while as it’s not my priority right now.
Be aware that that skin changes the mood of the game a bit, deliberately. MH has a trajectory that trends toward things falling apart dramatically and the Calaca slows that process down.
Otherwise, listening.
Thematically I haven’t had much problems with my players, they’ve had ways to keep the story going and interesting.
Otherwise, is there a similar skin you can suggest for them? They’re very much interested in playing a Sugar Skull/Skeleton-inspired creature.
I think it depends on the skin. Some of them you can probably just port over, just making sure to create two stat options.
A lot of others might require more work. MH 2 has no stat swap moves, most moves that let you remove Conditions in the first edition no longer allow it, moves that got rid of Strings were removed or changed (Cold as Ice no longer allowing you to remove 2 Strings at once, for instance), and the removal of giving out a Condition as a main mechanic (the Ghost’s Unresolved Trauma and the Serpentine’s Patience is a Virtue). If the Skin has some or a lot of that, you’ll need to change it greatly.
Topher Gerkey Also sorry to bother you, but I figured while I have you, are you planning to update the Unchained? I allowed my friend to play one in my first session and it worked out absolutely amazing. Got a really cool plot running with it and my friends absolutely love it.
Anyway thanks again, I love your skins and so far from the ones I’ve used, it’s given me some of the coolest plots I’ve ever had to run with as a GM.
