(Continued) And this is Terran Defence Force, a GMless homage to XCOM. I believe it’s pretty board-gamey, and I don’t know if there’s much room for actual role playing in it, but I wanted to experiment with a game that delays character creation so that you are basically a blank slate in the beginning.

I say “homage”, but I really mean “shamelessly stolen and the serial numbers only partially filed off” of course.
Oh hey this looks good. I too have a game in progress called “Terran Defense Force” but it’s about mechs fighting in space.
Aaron Griffin It was “Alien Defence Initiative” until a couple of days ago, but then I realized that would mean you’re defending the aliens, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How’d you do the layout for this? Is it a Google Doc exported as PDF?
Aaron Griffin I have access to InDesign and I dabble in layout.
Lari Assmuth I’ve tried TDF and it’s pretty deadly. Two questions: what are the hit die of the aliens, same as damage? Are the terrain modifiers reciprocal or just in favor of the aliens?
I suggest that the type of aliens is capped by the level of the pcs. Thanks for sharing the game Lari!
Acronico Meia Noite Thanks Acronico! Cool that you got to try it, and yeah – I was a little worried that the aliens would be way too tough. Maybe if the Alien type roll would be 1D6 + the rank of the highest ranking trooper?
As for your questions, the aliens HP is how many hit points they have, and the dice listed after their weapons/attacks how much damage they do if they hit. (Or did I misunderstand the question?) Terrain is supposed to give effects/bonuses to PCs/troopers as well as aliens.
But yeah, needs some tweaking. It’d be fun to add a basic XCOM-like campaign layer to allow for the troopers to upgrade weapons, armour etc. to get them more evenly matched with the aliens in the later game, but at the moment this is mostly a beer-and-pretzels game written because I wanted to do a character creation where you only get a name, a rifle and a few xp and throw you into the fray.
I probably used an old dnd term wrong. What wanted to know is how many dice do you roll to check if the aliens hit.
