So I’ve been struggling to come up with two names, which is a bit different for me. The first name is the name of a land where magic is abundant and things are run by people who trade bits of their souls to do whatever the hell they want.
The second name is the name of the actual game. The players are called Arcanes and use a word that defines their soul to empower their magic. The game uses ridiculous names and titles for everything because everybody with that much power takes themselves way too seriously. Mostly the game revolves around the politics of a society which is structure around distracting Arcanes so they don’t burn up their souls trying to kill each other and everyone else around them.
Suggestions for these names are welcome, and I’ll probably post an update of the rules later this week,
Given the focus on names, I would suggest In Nomine if that wasn’t already the name of a game. Maybe Truename?
Although, for a lateral suggestion which probably isn’t what you’re looking for: the most interesting sounding bits of that setting aren’t the Arcanes, but the social systems which have evolved to keep the world from burning down despite the Arcanes. So… why would the PCs be Arcanes when the less powerful characters seem so much more compelling?
My suggestion, then: rework the game so that it stars those without powerful truenames, the shepherds of the Arcanes rather than the Arcanes themselves, and call the game Nameless.
Place name: The Writ
Game: I Name Thee…!
Arcane Names for the game. And all the good names and titles for Arcanes are already in use, explain the eccentric creativity now at play.
I think right now I have working titles, The Airs and Audacity of Inner Words for the game and Breadon for the world. It’s all subject to change, but now I have names to use
