I’ve been looking around for a couple different PBTA-hacks for a few different settings but so far I’ve come up with nothing I’m hoping my googlefu is just weak and they are out there.

1) I’m looking for a Lovecraftian style horror game. Doesn’t have to be actually cthulhu just that sanity and things beyond our understanding style.

2) A pulp game so playing rocketeer, Indiana Jones, etc.

3) Feudal Japan. That is a wide category of feels and so I’m looking for whatever is out there from realistic to fantastical

  1. I’d also suggest Black Stars Rise for Lovecraftian style horror. For pulp you could reskin Uncharted Worlds, as I was planning to do just that for a Hollow Earth game.

    Interested to see what other people suggest for #3. 🙂

  2. You know you could seriously play AW as is and make it about feudal Japan. I’m not joking or hand waving, it’ll do the trick.

    The Apocayplse is the death of an emperor without an heir, leading to civil war, then hundreds of rising and falling petty states. You ne’er know who’s in charge or what rule you’re breaking.

    The psychic maelstrom is the restless heavens, savage without a true emperor with the Mantle of Heaven to intercede on man’s behalf.

    Battlebabe = Wandering Sword.

    Chopper = Bandit King.

    Savvyhead = “perfect Hanzo steel” weapon smith

    Hardholder = Shogun.

    Skinner = Geisha

    And so on.

    Samurai still fucked, but you could turn their sex moves into repectful ceremonies if you like.

  3. I am working on a Lovecraftian hack that is pbta called Cyclopean Stars. It’s in formative stages but will evolve. Most of the stuff I have for it is posted on the Cyclopean Stars G+ community.

  4. Brennan Taylor and I are working on a feudal Japanese AW hack called Thousand Arrows which focuses primarily on the Warring States Period. If you like betrayal and hails of bullets, we got you covered.
