I believe, like most PbtA games, each playbook is unique and can only be chosen once. You cannot have multiple Bastions — the Bastion’s control is complete — or multiple Fallens (they’re alone on their dirty beat), and so on.
Seconding Alfred Rudzki on that. I’ve seen some games that allow (or encourage) the same playbooks but they are the exception and specifically stated.
In fact, I think the Hood is a much better example of this than the usual. In most PbtA games its an artificial niche protection (which is totally legit, no problem at all). But in The Hood, it can very quickly become actual fictional niche protection. You’re the poor and downtrodden, trying to get by, and you’ve got this really sweet gig cracking skulls for Mulligan down the way… wait, what the hell do you mean there’s another Heavy on my street?
Well a few of the playbooks it could make a kind of sense, namely the Neighbor and the Drone. I could see some larger groups having more then one of these. I remember in AW its explicitly forbidden to have anyone else’s playbook “There are others that some might call an angel; but your the only Angel”
I totally feel you on that; I don’t think of the Neighbor or Drone often because those weren’t part of the initial playbooks — I just forget about them sometimes, haha! Those ones could see repeats, but I think the game is served better if there’s just that nosy neighbor, or that guy whose office we wreck… one and done. What do you think James Mullen?
I would strongly encourage each player to pick a different playbook, unless you all specifically agree to a game in which there is competition between the PCs for opportunities in the ‘hood. That would be a cool set-up for a blood-opera-style one-shot, but for an ongoing game, it’s best for each PC to have clearly demarked territory.
There are so many Playbooks to choose from I couldn’t see anyone picking the same playbook unless they had a particular story to tell… even then I can’t really see a reason to!
Either way, I’m really digging the ‘Hood!
Just as in any World game, you can …. But you shouldn’t.
I disagree with the Drone and the Neighbor. You always have THAT ONE neighbor that butts in, is nosy and is over friendly.
