Solo game, or one GM and one player?
I think you could do Monster of the Week with a GM and one player.
.
1 gm 1 player 🙂
You can do Dungeon World with 1 player. I wouldn’t do any of the relationship heavy games (Monsterhearts, Urban Shadows, Sagas of the Icelanders)
There’s the one on one ghost story game that Vincent Baker did, which is specifically built for that. Masks could work with the right playbook, since NPCs can exert influence.
Reflections is a great 2 player only RPG. It’s 2 Samurai dueling and remembering what brought them to that moment. It’s excellent.
tremulous works very well with one
Alan Scott is referring to Murderous Ghosts, which does indeed work well 1-on-1.
The Gauntlet’s Discern Realities (DW-specific) podcast has been doing some good 1 player actual plays for a while. Also, on a recent issue they mentioned some DW “legendary weapon” type expansion thing someone wrote, which sounded like it’d be really cool with a 1 player game.
Dungeon World or The Sprawl – but you already know that 🙂
Why not Murderous Ghosts by King Baker himself?
/sub
Actually, Urban Shadows would work pretty well in my opinion. Murderous Ghost is obviously good to go as it is. World Wide Wrestling and Legend of the Elements would work great too.
Antoine Pempie is that your wish-list for your next game on 2d6+cool?
Pierre M I wish !
Yes Murderous Ghost and Reflections are on my list 🙂
Aaron Griffin I wouldn’t do any of the relationship heavy games (Monsterhearts, Urban Shadows, Sagas of the Icelanders)
🐵Yup, that’s also what I think.

🐵Really? That’s one of the game I discarded for 1 on 1play. If it can work that’d be great.
Antoine Pempie 🐵 I thought Urban Shadows couldn’t make it aswell
Pierre M 🐵 As Antoine sail away to another dimension. In the meantime I’d like to run another ‘Format court’. Nonetheless, the Sprawl will still be aired
I am pretty sure MotW would be cool to hear on that form. Or to play 😉
Pierre M First on my list. Vanilla or in a Dark age way.
Apocalypse World, Star Wars World could work too.
I don’t think vanilla AW would work well – though it probably deserves à try.
Masks cares a lot about relationships, but play books like the Janus, the legacy, and the protege have important NPC relationships built in. It’s a lot of work for the MC to make those interesting enough to carry the day, but I think that’s a demand placed on gamemasters in any one on one game.
The supplement Tomer Gurantz mentioned above, The Legacy Weapon, would definitely be my recommendation. It’s designed specifically for Dungeon World one-on-one play. drivethrurpg.com – The Legacy Weapon – A Dungeon World Artifact and One Shot
And also to expand on the podcast recommendation, the +1 Forward podcast on the Gauntlet network also ends each show with a quick one-on-one session of whatever PbtA game they’re discussing. Lots of ideas there!
Volsung 2d6plusCool : I bet 5$ on Bronze Circle
