I have been working on a PbtA hack to play a monster hunting game, in a 17th Century Europe setting. In terms of fictional inspiration, it draws more upon modern monster hunting tropes from shows like Buffy and Supernatural but with additional rules that look to evoke a time period involving the Wars of Religion, the English Civil War and the peak of European witch hunting.

The current draft is very much a skeleton, and the archetypes are basically a collection of possible moves at this point, which will be refined and culled (I haven’t sorted out the advancement scheme yet). I’m looking to get any feedback anyone would like to give, and also to see if anyone is interested in play testing over Roll20.

The current draft is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZALC0Vq5WdnebkyAs_K79vVJ9C54M0Jk-Afs7W4_Ms8/edit?usp=sharing

  1. I was messing around with something like this for a push-pull style of combat in a dance duelling game, but truth be told Pendragon did it way before me with its primary stats.

  2. I’ve just added a new archetype for playing as a noble with a staff, or a mercenary captain type. Based heavily on the Chopper from AW and the demon underlings from Urban Shadows. I’s be grateful for feedback. Also working on giving the Scholar more schtick with a variation on the US workshop rules.
