  1. The Traveller roots are there too. My game has a grubby Firefly feel to it. So much is based on the tone set at the table. The light game structure supports many flavours.

  2. To me it looks like it’s sweet spot in between star wars and firefly. Star trek would just require a lot of higher class gear, weapons, and ships.

  3. Chalice In Chains ive tried a lot of AW system games, but most have never felt as good as the original. Other then Monster hearts. Are the basic moves similar and useful or lacking compared to AW

  4. Keenan Kibrick so I have not played AW but from my understanding this is even simpler. It is like a super simplified mechanic that is still robust enough to create the narrative experience you want.

  5. I eagerly await my AW 2nd ed as my first pure experience. Not sure it will have been called that before…

I’ve played and have a few other PbtA games. UW is on the light side of mechanics but in a good way. You have a small but perfectly formed set of Moves, with characters built from career and origin options. these give you ‘Skills’, which are really encouragements to play a particular way and boosts to capabilities and assets.

Opposition is simply ‘Threats with Agendas’. Your moves determine how they play out and if you win. It is pretty much a single roll per threat and then a narrative interplay to talk out what happens.

I’m running the game now and it works very well. As I say, it is on the mechanically light side of even a PbtA game. Factions, Debt and Assets are also fab.
