With Apocalypse World 2.0 / 2e / Second Edition on its way… has anyone heard any murmurings from other PbtA games that are going to incorporate those updates? I haven’t seen so much as a forum post or a quick tweet.

  1. it’s not like the d20 system or something, where everything uses the same rules framework and puts other things on top of it. PbtA games tend to be much looser adaptations of the Apocalypse World rules, so changes to Apocalypse World are likely to not even be translatable to other systems.

  2. I really liked the period where people discussed all the hacks on Barf Forth – you could kind of see it all at once and it was easy to give and receive help. Now I wish I had a better handle on what was in the works!

  3. I don’t see any significant changes that would affect other systems yet. The stuff in AW2 that changes are specific to the setting. New post-apocalyptic battle moves don’t affect how you fight a monster in Monster of the Week, for example.

  4. there’s a few things to incorporate. threat maps and the new battle system are broadly interesting. a few battle moves might be worth drawing on, as well as the seduce/manipulate move. but really, some of the games are due for an update anyway.

  5. The new rules are available to kickstarter backers, so make friends with one!

Hollyworld will definitely have massive street battles for players who want to relive Purple Rose of Cairo, Last Action Hero, or Cool World.

  6. The kickstarter predicts the PDF versions of the rules by July.

Haven’t seen any rules except the updates posted there.

I don’t own 1st edition so even if I had early access I couldn’t tell you of any changes.

without access to either it’s hard to decide how much they’ve changed.

They did remove the stupid idea of allowing players to have direct influence on the meta narrative though.

Adam Goldberg What is Amos N’ Andy and how do they relate to Apoc world ?

you’ve got your cultural references and I’ve got mine.

    Where’s the harm in that?

Besides … that’s not what we’re discussing, so let’s leave it at that.

  9. Russell Borogove I guess people hate positive role models of fictional characters. What’s next? Smurfs? Green aliens?

I’m sorry if you are so sensitive that you must react off topic to a mere profile picture of someone who isn’t a white character .

  10. Hahahahaahaha if you think Smurfs had a history of hundreds of years of mocking blue people as subhuman while simultaneously casting green people to play their parts

  11. Adam Goldberg ah so it is only bad if the people didn’t exist.

It is sad that it apparently is OK to be racist against orcs and judge them as evil because the book says so but the moment you change their skin color to black or yellow it becomes a problem …
