So I dedicate RPG playtime with my eight-year-old every weekend to help his brain, critical thinking, and creative prowess. He’s been bored with D&D lately, so I sat him down for a “session 0.” We identified that he didn’t want to play fantasy or sci-fi, but that he wanted modern day with monsters. So I’m thinking PERFECT! I bring out MoTW. And he then says he only wants to play gremlins (i.e. Spielberg). I told him we will definitely play gremlins, and whatever monsters ongoing. He said, “No! Not like Scooby Doo with different monsters every week. Only gremlins.” I told him I’m not running 52 weeks of gremlins. He got mad. We’re still discussing.
Sigh.
I guess you could try a game of “What Are Those Pesky Gremlins Up To This Week?”
But I don’t think that will last a whole year 🙂
Michael Sands I’ll do the gremlins, then do something that “looks” like gremlins, but is better. Then he’ll forget about gremlins. Right? Of course right! But seriously, I handed him the book and said, “Look through this, just take a minute.” We’ll see where it goes. And hey Chris Stone-Bush! It’s mysticfedora from Happy Jacks 😀
Different types of gremlins. Different themes/talents. What would make a Japanese, a German, and a Brazilian gremlin different from one another?
Robert Slaughter interesting thought. Wait. Did he put you up to this?
I mean, they made a series out of Tremors, so . . .
Gremlins 2 shows you that gremlins can be as varied monster as archetypal demons.
It all leads up to a grand ritual that will return all gremlins to Mogwai form, then try to gather them all up and transport to a Mogwai sanctuary.
Maybe have the PCs be Gremlins like Kobolds in “No Country for Old Kobolds.”

Mark Tygart Yes. I came to say the same, but Goblin Quest.
You guys are awesome thanks so much! Great ideas
Gremlins as a start for a while then introduce incrementally larger goblinoids: goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears, redcaps and other fae critters.
Gremlins as a gateway to the fae realms.
