  1. For character creation, tell people to choose quick, not agonise over lists as it’s a one shot. You could use pre-gens, but I find it’s worth the time as long as no one takes too long deciding.

    Ask for some extra details about the history choices, and like arturo says, make it clear they’re a team right from the start.

    Tell them the hook that attracted their attention, then say “Okay, where do you go first to chase that up?” Get them into some fun forensic style scene investigation right away, preferably with some pesky local cops to get in the way and ask awkward questions.

    For a 3-hour slot, keep the mystery pretty simple – a classic monster (e.g. vampire, ghost, werewolf, zombies), with just a little twist to make it not quite what they expect.
