  1. To expound on what Adam Goldberg was saying the move is on a HIT generate 3 burn, then on a 7-9 also get a condition. You need to remember that all successes are hits, but they could have phrased it better like: “on a hit get 3 burn and a condition, on a 10+ don’t gain a condition”.

  2. Yeah I think the wording you copied is wrong or the book your referencing is out of date. The wording should be “On a Hit: Hold 3 Burn, 7-9: Mark a Condition. On a 6- Mark 3 Conditions and Gain 2 Burn.”

And as noted a hit is a 7+

  3. While on the subject of Burn, I briefly played a Nova in a game ran by a GM that is new to the system. When I missed my burn roll he dealt with it by having my character’s powers causing damage to the environment and putting lives at risk (making a GM move), on top of the 3 conditions I took. And then he moved on to the next player before I had the chance to do anything with the burn I gathered. Neither of us really knew if that’s how the rules intend Burn to be resolved.

So my question is, is Burn a Move? Do you suffer additional consequences for failing it on top of taking 3 conditions? Does charging up count as a time consuming activity which prevents the Nova from doing other actions for a while? And do you mark potential on a miss roll?

  4. Val Catya The GM doesn’t make an additional move if there’s already a result for misses (page 137 “If the move the PC missed on describes a miss condition, follow those guidelines. Otherwise, you make whatever move fits, hard or soft as you choose.”) I can see moving to another player since you did something and gathering Burn can take time but considering the Nova is already taking 3 Conditions, doing more as a GM would be really harsh.
