Ever since reading Masks (and with all the talk of the Hulu series) I wanted to run a “Runaways”-Oneshot/Mini-campaign.
Anything else I should think about?
(SPOILER for the premise of Runaways Vol.1 following)
Premise:
“You knew each other from somewhat regular get togethers of your families when the grownups did some boring meetings. Somehow you got into a secret place and all discovered your parents were sacrificing someone. You barely fled the ritual before your evil parents could kill you by using your newly discovered abilities, now your only chance seems to stick together as a team. What do you do?”
I am also thinking about changing the “When our team first came together…” questions to also define more of “The Pride” (since this will probably be the main antagonist for the game)
Anything else?
Another idea would be to start the game with the kids trying to escape and letting them choose their playbooks, abilities and moves while doing so, but that might require some more planning for the setup.
I’d rather ask “what did you do to X’s parents to help you escape?” type questions at the start of the game.
Well, you can use (or heavily borrow from) Psi*Run. It is almost purpose built for this scenario. 🙂
This especially complicates the Legacy playbook, being the only one who knows your parent is actually evil and not a hero at all.
Protege doesn’t work with any of the parents being the mentor.
And the Reformed’s connections to villains probably doesn’t fit the tone you’re going for.
Otherwise, sounds like a fun setup.
Grey Kitten Legacy might need some rework, but since one would probably just “discover” the abilities right before the game started the parent might not have a chance to indoctrinate the future legacy yet. Moves might be unchanged if the new Legacy decides to go against his predeccessors. I might just change the -1 from “no” to -1 on “yes” for the “time passes” part.
Regarding the Reformed… just because the Reformed did criminal stuff doesn’t mean that his parents knew or even approved. (And Chase Stein from the Runaways is THE delinquent)
The Protege’s Mentor’s Resources might be tricky (unless the Mentor can’t locate them) and FIreside Chat move can’t be used.
