OK. The first draft of The Chimera is nearly done. I just need some names, the Sex Move, and the Darkest Self text. Not to mention the flavor text and the Playing the Chimera section, but I always leave those for last.
I’d seriously appreciate feedback. 🙂
Why is stormwrack there? I don’t really see the connection.
I’d love a move that rewards you for going against your current path. The half vampire that tries really hard to stay human but suddenly. Rusts out with vampiric might – only to feel miserable after that.
Seeing the Chimera was an omen of ill luck. Shipwrecks, natural disasters, that sort of stuff. I felt I had to toss a little of the “real” Chimera in there.
What do you mean “going against your current path”?
Aren’t you incentivised with Duel Heritage to exemplify 1 of your heritages? That is what I mean. A way to set your heritage score back to zero with a big act that goes against the heritage you currently focus on.
Also you realise that when there is a mortal (or maybe Queen) in play the most powerful thing is to be half human so you can use your heritage against a big number of character?
I had originally included a list of the core Skins to choose from for your Bloodlines and intentionally left the Queen off because they’re mortal, like the Mortal. But I’d forgotten that picking the Mortal as one of your Bloodline choices means it would grant you the bonus (or penalty) when interacting with all non-supernatural characters. That bears thinking about.
You’re not really incentivised to choose one of your heritages. Or at least that’s not the intention. Like the Angel’s Trespass and Forgiveness meter, being at +1 with one bloodline puts you at -1 with the other. Maybe that wasn’t clear.
Thanks for the comments Adam Goldberg. Looks like I need to do some tweaking. You and Tim Franzke both mentioned that Stormwracked ddoesn’t seem to fit.
I’ve responded to your comments Adam Goldberg. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
To me it feels like a very good idea with not enough finesse. The balancing heritages is very cool as an idea – but I’d cut it back to a simple human/monstrous, with most of the PCs making up most of the monsters (certain PC skins can class themselves as human). That gives you at least a community each way.
Nemean Hide is IMO crushingly powerful. Reduce all incoming harm to 0 except under rare conditions? Ouch. It would still be very powerful if it was reducing incoming harm by 1. To keep it, I’d allow the Chimera to hold steady against incoming harm to reduce it by 1. And risk the hard move.
Evil Sight – you’re picking a move that rolls your weakest stat.
Again, I like the core concept. But the implementation needs polish.
You can play human/monstrous if you want to Francis Dickinson. Just pick Mortal as one of your bloodlines.
As someone who got some flak for not being “Asian enough”, this speaks to me deeply. This is definitely something for people who were told they weren’t “[blank] enough”.
Yeah, that is exactly where this comes from A Channel. I really should go back and finish this.
