Does anybody have any recommendations for Skins that could represent:
– a Jekyll & Hyde / Hulk like character
– a Terminator / robot-in-disguise character
(I’m plotting something.)

After having a quick look through some options further down the ‘Skins’ forum, I’m definitely going to check out:
– The Hercules and The Immortal
– The Alien
But I’d love to hear any other recommendations you’ve got…
Someone made one called The unchained based on that concept….
Here is a link to the original concept

Oh this is something I was messing around with for a game concept based on that skin.

I guess it sort of depends on what part of those characters you want to focus on.
For the Jekyll & Hyde / Hulk I think “The Beast” from skins for the Skinless might be what you’re going for. It’s all about repressing passions, then going all out and giving in, turning into a killer animal.
For the Terminator / robot-in-disguise, I am less sure. Because to me, the Terminator isn’t defined by his ability to pass as a normal human but his unending drive to accomplish his task in a brutal efficient nonhuman way… In this sense, the Werewolf makes sense to me. Always sort of out place, not understanding why everyone sticks to their designated rules when there is a simpler, more straightforward way. This still has the “fitting” in bit, but not quite as literal as you might be thinking.
If you want someone that actually changes form or has disguises, “The Cuckoo” from second skins might be your bag… or “The Calaca” from Skins for the skinless. For me, neither of those feel very “terminatory” but they do have the trying to pass as someone else or as a human element you might be looking for.
the terminator is pretty much the hollow. the hollow skin deals with constructs or “new humans”.
as for jekyll and hyde, you probably want the werewolf with some altered flavoring.
Awesome! Thanks, Branden, Yoshi and Anne. I’ll have a look at those Skins from that angle 🙂
Steve Hickey More importantly, what teenage archetype are you looking at for the chars. If you try to just make monsters fit into the game, they will be less interesting than if you really think about what hs archetype you want and altering the character towards that.
I’ve got a slightly different aim here than for a typical MH game. Rather than archetypes, I’m trying to find a set of characters who will conflict with each other, partially because each of them represents a wildly different source of ‘power’. The scenario I’ve got in mind is more of a contained thriller / pressure cooker situation, rather than a nuanced soap opera.
Steve Hickey So it sounds like you are hacking the system a bit?
Just a little bit, Anne Ratchat. I’m going to take the ‘assign strings’ bits in the Backstory section and get the players to use them during the game to provoke mini-scenes. I’m also going to let the players take multiple advances during the session without needing to earn experience (maybe I’ll tie those advances into creating Backstory mini-scenes). That will help create the sense of escalation that I’m looking for.
I’ll be slightly pre-generating the characters as well (in terms of stats and initial moves), just to create the opening situation that I want.
But, on reflection, I think the thing I really connect with from your comment, Anne, is that I want each Skin to have a source of longing and alienation, a way in which they’re misunderstood. That’s probably the thematic issue that I need to focus on defining.
Thank you for helping me realise that!
Steve Hickey exactly! i’m really happy you came to the conclusion on your own. 🙂 have fun with your game.
Hulk is a modern day Werewolf to be sure.
Jekyll could be one too, but it’d make more sense to me if you just decided with the player that their Darkest is simply a different character with their own motivations. Could be a Witch who works through alchemy.
Transformer/robot needs to be its own thing I think, but you can use a standard Skin as a starting point.
