Simply for my own curiosity, I’m wondering how far people go with narrating sex in their games. What I mean is, where do you fade to black and cut to the next scene? Obviously the correct answer is “as far as your group feels comfortable going”, I’m just curious about where that is generally speaking.
So, where do you fade to black?
Depends on the game. IRL games in person, depending on who is in the game, we’ll do all of the above. We have some friends we just go, “Oh, and they go off for sexy times.” We have others who want to get down and dirty, not terribly explicit, but narration has included into and/or past intercourse.
And then there’s RP-ing over chat or on Storium, and those games get FILTHY.
I mainly play online these days, but either way we usually fade to black after the dialog stops and before consummation. Sometimes it’s important to clarify how far it goes or a general idea of what act is performed. That’s all handled by mutual agreement between the players just before any Moves are triggered, results are handled, and… fade to black.
depends on the game. With Monsterhearts we’ll get pretty explicit as long as all involved are into it/feeling it. In Monster of the Week though it’s just alluded to.
My groups of Monsterhearts so far have faded off on the actual development rather early but go on describing what happens on a metaphorical, sensual and emotional level. Like describing the pearls of sweat on my skin, then another player adding that some of them might be tainted red and so on.
Thanks for all the comments. I totally neglected that the format the game is in could affect people’s answers.
I’ve noticed that when we play high schoolers, we tend to stop narrating just before intercourse.
But when we play college students, it can get very filthy.
I do play games where we write actual sex, but for live play, we stop before intercourse.
That said, because the different sex moves trigger differently, it’s frequently the case that you have to get a LITTLE into it before you can know if someone’s sex move triggers, or not!
