Greetings fellow edge runners.
I’m new here so a little introduction first.
My journey with RPGs is short (about 0.5 year), but I am punting a lot effort to play as often as possible. I started with base AW, and I loved it. Then I tried DMing CoC with some success. Now i’m preparing to MC in The Sprawl.
This is where I need your help. I created a custom move to get drugs. I would appreciate your suggestions.
P.S. I am not native English speaker so any suggestions regarding vocabulary are also welcome.

This move seems to mainly revolve around buying a drug. Is there a reason “Hit the Street” won’t work? “Hit the Street” is usually what is used to procure things such as weapons, information, drugs, etc.
Maybe you could consider having a special move for taking a drug that can simulate how well the user handles the effects and if they get the benefits they were hoping for. Maybe something along the lines of
Take a Hit
On a 10+ everything goes as expected, you experience the tags associated with the drug.
7-9 – You get the benefits, but you’re feeling the side effects. (Maybe -1 to Act under Pressure, or a list of options to simulate different side effects)
Yeah probably true. I really wanted to make a custom move. So I guess I will com out with the effects together with my players as we go.
Don’t let me discourage you from making a custom move. I think this could be a good mechanic to add. I was just trying to understand the purpose for this custom move so we could give better advice.
I think I wanted to make it clearer for the players. Why the prise and tags are what they are. This move idea was to decide which stats player pics and which the MC
The use of drugs, by long movie tradition, should be a zero-sum game. You take drugs to improve your mood or your abilities, but you will come DOWN in some way later.
Ok. So it should be something like players pics one effect and I add one effect. Move should be less complicated. Maybe drugs should have different efects based on Synth or number of cyberware?
Or just keep their effects strictly in the fiction, and don’t mechanize them?
IME things like this either turn into DnD potions, or dissuade people from using drugs in the fiction at all.
Yes. That was my intention. Although I want some drugs to by beneficial mechanic-wise as well e.g. when you take anesthetic drug you do not roll harm move or you roll +nothing. I want this move to be use for drugs=vice, drugs=medicine, potentially for poisons as well

One thing i loved about CP2020 was the possibility to create drugs with a skill. So the Player could make their own ones. I would like to see a move there. Also with those tags from this document.
