Okay, so, as a fledgling Infiltrator with a stack of Cred burning a hole in my pocket my precious Zil wants to get a set of cybercoms (that +encrypted +jamming will have to come in handy right). If I want to straight up buy such a thing (rather than using an advancement)…
What’s the difference between the 4-cred “basic cheap cyberware” and the 8-cred “most cyberware”?
As a quick-and-dirty answer: does it have a negative tag or not.
So if it’s “basic and cheap” it would probably have one of the tags as if you’d “scrimped and saved to buy it yourself”.
That’s kind of in line with what I was starting to think, but good to know. (Time to splurge for the big-kid version, someone already +owned my nervous system.)
But the going under the knife move gives those tags already on a soft hit. So if you spend 4 cred and then roll a 7 you get 2 tags?
I’d lean towards ‘Is it common ‘ware/just an upgrade’. Getting the upgrade to give your existing cyberarm implanted weapons has a LOT less machinery involved as you’ve already got the baseline ‘ware.
For common ware, I’d lean towards ‘Is this a thing a civilian could have?’. Skillwires? Yep. Cybernetic Eyes? Yep. Synthetic Nerves? Nope.
Good point, Matthew Terry, I’d forgotten that!
It’s ultimately a judgement call for the table. What counts as basic and cheap in your sprawl?
