I’m excited to be starting a new game tomorrow! I’ve played in a couple games/campaigns, but this will be my first time GMing UW. I’ve also GMed and played other AWE games, so I am familiar with the general principles. Nevertheless, this is where I ask for advice. With the exception of one enthusiastic-but-completely-new-to-ttrpgs player, the others are coming from a more traditional (d20) background. I’d love to hear about anything that you feel worked really well or really horribly from your own games, or anything else you feel is worth mentioning. Thanks!

It can be a a bit of a jump coming from a “traditional” d20 background. I would definitely try to make sure the players understand the principles you are trying to follow, so everyone’s on the same page.
I personally found this “Dungeon World Guide” (link attached) super helpful for understanding the mindset behind this whole family of games. Dungeon World / Uncharted Worlds rules are slightly different but they operate on most of the same principles.
The GM / “Threat” chapters in the UW book are also really really excellent. Read them, re-read them, have your players read them. 🙂 If/When I go back to running a Dungeon World or other PbtA game I’ll be stealing a ton that I learned from UW.

I’ve read the Dungeon World Guide. I agree, it’s a definite must read for AWE GMs. And thanks for the advice. I’ll re-read the UW GM section.
