How do cross PB advancement work?
I get in Star Wars that Luke is an Ace, Fringer, Guardian …… but explain in US could I be a Wolf, Vampire, Ghost?

I assume it would be similar to MH, I was a Hollow, and took a Ghost advancement because it fit the way I was playing the character, and made sense. If it doesn’t make sense, don’t take it just because you could.
Tommy Rayburn I would say it can happen through the fiction. Wolf gets bitten by vamp then gets separated from his body. My opinion is that it is much more challenging to go between playbooks without some form of in-game reason.
Matt Strickling and Steve Moore, I understand that all to well as the reason I am playing is for the narrative aspect, but the question becomes what happens when that player decides to min/max his character over what makes sense? Do I as the MC deny that?
Matt Strickling has the right of it. There are plenty of archtype moves that are generic enough for anyone to take from other archetypes. But obviously some are very creature specific. I saw a Hunter recently take the Wizard move ‘spellcasting’ because he was spending time researching an old magic tome he picked up. It’s on the MC to enforce logic in these move choice. If a Fae wants to take ‘Nephilim’ without a reasonable explaination as to why, they can’t take it.
Also, I find that I rarely have to deny anything, more that I just look at him and say “Seriously? Fucking seriously?” if necessary, I escalate to turning to the other players with a look of ” This asshole, eh?”
(Edit: because Google apparently thinks italics should be represented by underlines.)
There will be some archetype changes that are pretty much barred to your archetype but everyone will have options to take. Any Vamp can go into Hunter or Aware and any Fae could go Immortal or Expert.
hehe yeah Matt has the right of it again. It’s on the whole group to make everyone accountable for choices like that. If I’m a player and the Vamp beside me wants to take Faerie Magic without any Fae exposure, I don’t wait for the MC, I call him on that bs. 🙂
So, as long as there a reason and story behind it that sounds reasonable, then go for it?
Thank you, I just wanted to make sure.
I think this same practice should exist in any *world game. If my Hocus wants to take Not to be Fucked With, someone better damn well call me on that! 🙂
