From Basic Moves 2.0
Is it me or does “mislead, distract or trick” and “persuade an npc” overlap quite a bit?
Also, so I am assuming we are using highlighted stats for factions …. which means that no longer gives XP?
Last, why remove the advanced versions from underneath the basic moves? If I want to look at quick glance of it’s attached move …. i have to go to a different page.
Nope, Persuade is for legitimate leverage and deals, MDoT is for actually fooling people for a few moments.
No highlighted stats anymore, just Faction-based advances now.
The advanced move spot will most likely change, we just wanted to get it out there asap. Layout issues will be corrected well before release, I promise. 🙂
I totally get where the difference is for the first question, was just pulling the question as I can see it asked by my players.
I think the best way to think about mislead vs. persuade is that the former can be used to set up the latter. Like this:
Tomás, the Wolf, is trying to strike a deal with an elder vampire, El Hombre Muerte (EHM). Tomás decides to try to get EHM to let him loose to find one of the vampire’s enemies and kill him. He says “I know where the guy is.”
First, he’ll have to make a mislead roll to get the leverage he needs. If EHM believes The Wolf, then Tomás can make a Persuade roll to get EHM to let him loose to hunt the guy down.
If Tomás wanted to say “I can hunt him with my Wolf powers,” he doesn’t have to mislead. 😀
Mark Diaz Truman I see the difference, I just think there is a bit of overlap. That could also be from my experience of using Persuade already in that manner. The good thing is the removal of “Threaten an NPC” and combining that with persuade opens up a lot on the reverse side.
