If I wanted to build out a Western gunslinger who happened to know some elemental magic, could I get an example of that as a baseline?

Use tha manual:
– Choose a Origin who fit your idea;
– Choose the Drive ” Adapt to a changing world ” who is perfect with people from the past
– Talk with the others players what would be the perfect ” Power Profile “, some time [Magical Gunslinger] would be great, but you need to define your setting with your friends.
– The most difficult part is to compile the Power Summary, because in some setting “my shots change trajectory at will ” would be a Simple Task, some others would be a Borderline or even a Bornout. I don’t know what you are aiming but focus in what would be ” Hard ” for your character and then write the others difficoulties.
PS: sorry for bad english 😀
I meant things that are not powers. I only see powers covered but not mundane actions using weapons. Do those have to be powers as well?
Powers are a must, but the manual talk about character ” powerless “. A Greenarrow/Hawkeye character is used for explaining the Power summary compilation. Read that and it will be more easy,
Just pulling some bits out of the air I might look to something like this. My view is a lot of what he does could just be seen as a very skilled or lucky person until he goes full out.
(assuming they have a limit to add a couple of bits here and there (which gun fighter doesnt have a rep issue or enemy))
ADVANTAGES: Pearl handled 6 Shooters
ADVANTAGES: This here’s my rifle Old Faithful
ADVANTAGES: Old Leather Duster & Hat
SIMPLE: literallly Lightning fast reflexes (is it a skill or is it magical, player to decide)
SIMPLE: I read body Language better than english
DIFFICULT: Shoot the wings off a fly
DIFFICULT: I control the wind that guides bullets
BORDERLINE: Elements or not, Gun Fu!
POSSIBLE: Who needs a Gun when you have elements
IMPOSSIBLE: Become the elements
As I understand it, if it’s something anyone can do, you just use the appropriate move. In this case since pretty much any mook can shoot a gun, I’d just use the Take Down move and roll+maneuver.
In the Powers Summary you write down everything the character can do above and beyond a normal human. Including martial arts prowess or athletics, etc.
In the Powers Profile you write down the things they are good and trained at starting out. I.e. they don’t have to Push in order to do them. You put down actions in the Powers Profile, so Richard has some good stuff, except for the bits that aren’t describing actually doing things.
So for example, an elemental gunslinger might look like:
Powers Summary: Power over the elements, deadeye shot.
Advantages: guns.
Powers Profile:
Simple – Shoot the wings off a fly
Simple = React fast as lightning
Difficult – Call down lightning in a storm
Difficult – Curve bullets around obstacles
Borderline – Dodge bullets
Possible – Become the elements
Like Robert said, if it’s something anyone can do, or if it’s on your Powers Profile, you can roll Take Down. If it’s both beyond a normal person and not on your Powers Profile (but that makes sense for your powers as described in your Powers Summary), you’d Push.
I see then. Thank you for the info and the example build
