We have one more session to go in our First Age. So far it has run 5 sessions + 1 session of family and character creation.
The world we have created has evolved organically due to the family playbooks chosen (Order of the Titan, Uplifted Children of Mankind, and Servants of the One True Faith) with the nature of Fall taking on a spiritual/fantastical aspect.
The world Fell due to the machinations of four scientists who strive to advance humanity in different ways. They are:
– Sotilary, who sought to elevate humanity to the heavens
– Iloseta, who sought to make humanity into an apex predator
– Leolyn, who sought to make humanity one with the earth
– Anbadon, who sought to expand humanity through technology
These four (called Oni) are now sufficiently advanced to be considered gods, each with their own altered people to serve them.
The Fall came about when the Oni managed to breach the sky and connect to the realm of inspiration and dream beyond, which is called Clarion. In an attempt to build a bridge between the two worlds, they found a way to attach worldly desires and suffering to the beings who inhabited Clarion and brought them crashing down to earth.
Now that’s a great Fall.
Love the gnostic tone you’re going with here! How’s the world been changed by the aftermath of the Fall? Are the Oni still kicking around?
Not much has changed, though so far there is only a small island of safe land surrounded by unknown lands of storms and demons. The realm beyond the sky is known, but unreachable except by the mad and divine.
The Oni are around, at the centre of the beyond-human servants they created.
Very cool stuff.
Tell us more about the Families!
The families have only just started to develop beyond their archetypes TBH.
Ordo Behemoth has lost its way, was destroyed by the second Behenian (thanks to the PC trying to commune with it), and is now rebuilt itself enough to lead the attack in that Behenian.
The Uplifted Children are a splinter group of bird people who were created by Sotilary to fly beyond the sky.
The Precinct are the legacy of an old police department.
The Children of the Light are the greatest in number and follow a religion that seems to be a mythologising of the science of the four Onis.
Thinking on it, the game has been inspired by both Tribe 8 and Evangelion. However, the prime inspiration has been this YA book series.goodreads.com – Ferren & The Angel
Yeah, I was thinking it sounded pretty Tribe8-y. Glad to hear Legacy can reproduce that tone, as it was one of my big inspirations!
Inerested about how the Order fit into the Ordo, if the moves and fictional hooks applied well.
Fictional hooks of the Order were instrumental in the setting creation. The player is still grappling with the Family moves but that cleverly became the source of the player’s character criticism of their family 🙂
