  1. Some of the sheets in Roll20 are better than others. The generally have dice icons to automatically roll moves. It still pays to put move text into Roll20.

  2. I’m involved in some online games using PbtA – AW, DW, Masks, and my game, Infinite Galaxies – and we’ve used Roll20 for all of them.

We use Roll20 for the dice rolls, storing characters, and we use the map space for displaying information in text boxes (here are some important NPCs, etc) and simple maps.

It has worked very well for us.

  3. YouTube is your friend with roll20. Watch some basic vids there. I was new to both roll20 and the pbta game I ran. For me roll20 actually helped me learn the game as I started creating basic handouts for my players on game mechanics and backstory. Also to make it easier for me and the players I set up basic character sheets on all the play books with starting stats. When players join and want a specific character playbook I just assigned it. Also what I learned is if you are looking to get your players from the roll20 community it may be a good idea to take a page out of United and overbook since at least a few of your players who signed up will most likely not show on the day of the game.
