Would it be heretical to play a game that’s 100 kayfabe? All wrestlers/managers/everyone is their on-screen personas.

Disallow the Anti-hero and Hardcore gimmicks, and set the timeline in the sixties or seventies. kayfabe was always in effect then.
I’m writing a wrestling campaign loosely based on Charlemagne and his brother, Karloman, and the more I got into it the more I felt like the storytelling would benefit from everything existing in a kayfabe universe.
I’d love to see how this goes!
Would you also want the matches to be played “straight” (i.e. not booked by Creative?) If so, here’s the thought I’ve had about doing a shoot match:
– You have to go for your finisher to end the match. In addition to the mechanical effects, a 10+ wins you the match, a 7-9 is a near-fall (and you retain control), a Botch is a reversal and your opponent gains control.
– You can Interrupt as usual when someone goes for their finisher.
– Momentum because much more important because once you’re out of it, you can no longer Interrupt to keep someone from hitting their finisher on you.
You might also want to see if +Real would need to be remapped to mean something a little different in the context of your game, or you could basically ignore it (and, like Peter Bothwick says, disallow the +real based playbooks like Anti-Hero, Hardcore and maaaaybe Wasted)
Oh man, I’m all in on this. It’d be like playing in the old school Hulk Hogan’s Rock n’ Wrestling show.
