A couple things I did at Origins:

– used poker chips to keep track of Momentum. Worked great!

– booked the show with some kind of everyone-will-be-involved event (Regal Wrangle, or multi-match elimination tournament) and had everyone deliver a “pre-taped” promo before we started the show, to get into character and create a table vibe. I really like this technique, especially for Con games.

– before the Main Event, framed a backstage scene with no cameras rolling, so the players could interact “out of character”. this was simple but surprisingly effective in adding that real dimension so the characters, even in single session game

– I only thought to do this for the last game, but at the end of the game I went around and did a “next time on” a la PTA. I asked “so, what do you see your character getting up to on the next episode?”. This was a really nice way to wrap up the session and help create the feeling that these characters were going to go with their storylines.

These are all notes to self for inclusion in the book!

  1. We do the ‘no camera’ moments every time. It really helps! And I crack up when some people ‘stay in character’ regardless (keep the speech mannerisms and costuming, but speak about the job out of character of course).

Also before we start I do a LAST TIME ON W W W … which gives us some rivalries, big events and materials for folks to work into promos.

Everything you wrote up are great tips though (and should hopefully make it into the rules).

  2. Im not sure if I’ll be getting to updating the rules PDF but I’ll see if I can get some of these tips on the Creative reference sheet, at least! All that stuff (Gimmick and in-play sheets) is getting updated soon.
