An idea for someone to run with (rising out of Adam Dunlop ‘s custom move thread) – you know how Apocalypse World has Barter? WWWRPG could have Stroke as a semi-abstract currency to represent how to get things done backstage. You can spend Stroke to get booked better or to get a specific request implemented, or maybe to do things like start rumors or convince people to sell other people out.

I mean, WWWRPG doesn’t really need another global currency but it could be something to build some backstage custom Moves around.

  1. Though, theoretically, one could tie it into momentum, I see how that can and can not work.  Like, you can be super over with the fans, but not have the pull backstage, and likewise, have so much pull backstage, but the fans just aren’t that into you.

  2. I’m thinking it’s an on-the-fly thing, and maybe it’s more about how much it takes to get the same thing? Like, guys who are more popular spend less Stroke in general, but it’s a special Gimmick Move to get around that.

Like in the journeyman’s cup scene where everyone was yelling at Tina backstage, Atomo could probably use less stroke then Escorpion to get Tina to shift the direction of his booking, you know?

  3. Yea, I totally get it. could also work like an opposite of The Veteran’s custom move Bury ’em

Where you go to convince creative to push you.

But then again, it sounds more universal.  Cause anyone can go to creative and try that, but  some are just better than others.

  4. My thought is that it makes the Manager’s moves less effective (and the Manager only has two ‘move’ moves).

Maybe like Face/Heel, there’s Others/Self with moves that allow you to do things? But there are tons of moves that allow you to create, edit and reverse segments…

  5. At the start of an episode you get a number of stroke equal to your audience.  When you gain or lose audience in an episode you gain/lose stroke.

Every time you attempt to book a segment or match spend one stroke.

Momentum can be converted to stroke 2 for 1 as you parlay the current roll you are on for favors.

This would add an additional cost to a to Cut a Promo, Bury ’em and similar moves.
