Supplement Content

Here’s what I got in my outline so far in terms of actual new mechanical stuff.

Lucha Libre: 2 new Gimmicks, The Luchadore and The Cultural Champion (need a better name for that, but basically the El Santo). Maybe a new “Exotico” Advanced Role.

A new Gimmick kind of shared by the next two: The Shoot Fighter

Puroresu: 1 new Gimmick, The Ace, plus how to play a Japanese Shoot Fighter

Catch Wrestling: new match stipulation – Mountevan’s Rules Match (basically the rules under which World of Sport matches were wrestled, includes a “public warning” alternate result in the Wrestling Move and some other stuff), plus how to play a British Shoot Fighter

Indie: 1 new Gimmick “The Indie Darling,” maybe a new Advanced Role “Foundational” (or something like that). Probably break out one of the Indie Darling’s moves into a whole match stipulation that covers modeling near falls.

Other new rules: Mythic Moments, Audience Moves, Promotion Moves, Backstage Stroke

Hacks/modifications: Slow Advancement, Promotion Advancement, Wars & Invasions

I’m aiming to have a shareable draft soon (mid-August?) for people to cherry-pick stuff they want to playtest out of.

So yeah, that’s the current state of things.

  1. Addendum: I have a poor memory and I have not kept up very well with custom Gimmicks y’all have posted! If you wrote or have seen a Gimmick that you think has already covered some of this ground, let me know so I can take another look and see if it’s a good fit! I always give credit to the original author etc etc.

  2. I may be covering that in the Invasion stuff! Maybe you just have two seperate Gimmick sheets, and there’s a special Move for bringing in crossover fictional content from other promotions.

  3. As long as you can keep worldwide postage to a reasonable price like last time, I’ll be buying it XD (many rpg’s posted from US have exorbitantly high cost to postage cost ratios, but yours for WWWRPG was quite good last time).

  4. I charge just barely over (like, round up to the next .50) what the post office charges me! I honestly don’t know what other people do to make international shipping even more expensive.

  5. Well it’s at least half of what most shipping and handling from the US was for me. most postage for me would double the price of the book or more.

So yours was 33.50 total for me for pdf, book and shipping. Which, I think given euro to dollar currency change at the time was also pretty good.

But also seems reasonable in general.

For like dungeon world it was closer to 50 for that.

So, if you can keep ahead of the pack with postage you’ll do much better overseas too. For those who like books over pdf’s.

  6. How varied will the Backstage Stroke be? I’ve been missing a mechanic to portray backstage clout in this game, right now only a few Gimmicks have any moves that gives backstage (off camera) stuff any sort of mechanics. I’d like to have stuff where a wrestler can leverage his popularity (Audience) into concessions from creative (and Creative, since that is the way the Apocalypse engine works). In a match, the Wrestling move does a lot of the heavy lifting, but there are alternatives, will Backstage Stroke be an equivalent Move and will there be any alternatives?

  7. Stroke is an abstract layer on top of the current mechanics. It’s related to Audience but not in a one-to-one fashion. It’s not a specific Move, or rather, it’s a broken-apart series of micro-Moves, kind of like Momentum.

The goal is to have it available on an ad hoc basis (i.e. when it comes up/when the group wants to use it), but not be another number to track all the time. I think some of it is pretty clever and hope it’ll be a strong choice for people who are interested in giving backstage politics more teeth!

  8. Sounds interesting, I’ve felt that the off-camera bit of WWWRPG was lacking, by PbtA standards. You can always make shit up but what I love about PbtA games is that there is pretty much always a Move or other mechanic that tells you how it goes. As a GM I love that, since it allows me to be surprised and enjoy playing it by air.
