My wife and I were watching Steven Universe on Hulu yesterday, and the ‘Tiger Millionaire” episode came on. In it, two of the main characters become a heel wrestling team. It was pretty amazing.

Just a call out to the peanut gallery.

Just a call out to the peanut gallery.

Just a call out to the peanut gallery. I am moving Professor Atomo into the advanced role of Icon next game, while Stras Acimovic is putting Reaper in as a Legend. This continues their on-stage wrestling feud while supporting their backstage machinations to grow the business.

As an Icon, Professor Atomo will have a move that sets the crowd afire (presuming I don’t botch) and I have two options I wanted some feedback on.

Firstly is his finisher, The Atomo Bomb. Basically an extended powerbomb, Professor Atomo has used this move for years. His recent workouts have buffed up his physique a little though, so the move has been having a more pronounced impact in the last few matches. The advantage of The Atomo Bomb as the Iconic move is that he uses the move fairly often and to great effect, though it could stand to be more dramatic.  The same could be said of his submission move, The Atomo Equation, really.

Secondly is a move I think I will call The Atomo Missile. Several times Professor Atomo has hurled wrestlers out of the ring at announcers, generally for comedic effect. Last episode though, he very dramatically tossed Cloak at Scythe (missing him but nailing the Crakhead audience plant Freebase) while yelling out his familiar “WRESTLING SCIENCE!” Given the pop the move got, I think it would be interesting to make it Iconic. It would need to be a bit more formulaic if I did so… like always beginning with a body press and associated with his catchphrase. The advantage of this move is that it is delightfully over the top, but it is tougher to justify with any regularity.

Anyone have an opinion? Should I change any of the moves?

So I was thinking about the kickstarting days of this game that I love so, and in retrospect it felt like Stras…

So I was thinking about the kickstarting days of this game that I love so, and in retrospect it felt like Stras Acimovic  had used the “put-over” move on the whole thing really effectively. I know his write-up is part of what drew me in. So then I decided it would be interesting to put some of our legends of Indie gaming into wrestling roles…

I have been toying around with doing a promotion based on Kaiju Big Battel.

I put this in actual play because it links to what we are doing, but the broad points are applicable elsewhere.

In the upcoming match (or matches) for the Journeyman’s cup I was thinking of having Professor Atomo attempt to get himself put in as guest referee on the basis that he knows a ton about Wrestling Science and because he is less likely to be beaten down by random interference, like The Bones. He would attempt to do this as the Babyface move: Add a Stipulation to a Match. Can he do this? It is worth noting he would be adding a stipulation to a match he is not technically in. What effect would being a guest referee have?

On a similar note, The Clown includes a celebrity Promo move that basically functions as the creation of an exhibition match against or tag teaming with a NTC. It primarily serves to create an interesting story, rather than a material benefit. Is this the only way to have a celebrity come on? Can you envision a mechanical benefit to doing so? I quite like story generating moves, but I am probing the edges a bit.

Lastly, and most selfishly, the dastardly Dr. Moreau was recently revealed to be Professor Atomo’s long time foe, Sharkman. Or perhaps “the evolved form” might be more appropriate. At any rate, he is the current RAD champion, an offense against nature that must not stand. However, with no rankings it is unclear how the Professor will go about combating his nemesis. In short, where does the path to vindication lie?

Had some thoughts after reading the book and thinking about my experiences playing.

Had some thoughts after reading the book and thinking about my experiences playing.

1. Do the enforcer or valet have a mechanical effect? They are listed as an advance, but all it seems to do rule wise is to add another NPW for the GM. Not that I am opposed to story-enhancing advancements, but I wanted to be clear.

2. If you spend an advance on “dedicated tag team”, but then your team breaks up, do you get the advance back? Or does it stay as a floating connection, awaiting a new partner? Or is it swallowed by the abyss?

3. If a wrestler changes gimmicks, does their old gimmick open up for others to use? If Professor Atomo becomes a Manager, can Reaper be a Veteran? If Reaper becomes an Icon, can a newbie play a Monster?

4. Does a Heel need to be in control of a match to use their “win a match you weren’t booked to win” move? It seems like they would for the trigger, but I have seen it played as the move activates the dirty trick rather than the other way around.

5. If a Heel or a Face is using a move, can it be interrupted by the expenditure of momentum? It would seem to fit some narratives, with wrestlers attempting to cheat each other in a vicious back and forth, but it would mean that the Heel or Face is spending 2 momentum while their opponent only spends 1.

Is there any chance of keeping our online game going? I kind of want to see the saga continue.
