What happens when I end up watching a Jurassic Park/Reservoir Dogs Double Feature recovering from the flu? 🙂

Feedback and war stories are, as always, very welcome!

The most requested photo in the U.S. National Archives is not the first moon landing or the burning twin towers after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

It is actually a picture of President Richard Nixon shaking hands with Elvis Presley in the Oval Office in December 1970 after the meeting between two pivotal figures in 20th century America. For your hunters this photo is about to come to life!

Some classic exorcism seem to not work on two ghosts in hot and wet Louisiana. Maybe it’s something in the Bayou ? And what about all those flowers everywhere ? Welcome to Laflamme, Louisiana, Floral Town !

This is another “Mystery for the Road”, available for what you want on DTRPG. Comments welcome !

Ken Hite’s Trail of Cthulhu rulebook’s classic sample scenario inspired this Monster of the Week (“MotW”) mystery. I have, however, both simplified and changed features and removed most Lovecraftian Mythos references from the adventure. Obtaining a copy of the Trail of Cthulhu rulebook for access to the original scenario is strongly recommended. I also recommend “In the Wake of the Butcher: Cleveland’s Torso Murders” by James Jessen Badal as the best current book about the case.

Hey everyone

Hey everyone

Hey everyone,

I have a question on how to accomplish something that is happening but can’t be stopped by the hunters. To give some backstory.

I’m trying to create a mystery to run with my wife and friends. The idea was of a ghost story where the ghost is trying to complete a ritual to permanently possess the body of a little boy. I want to build the tension by isolating the hunters from the rest of the world by having a winter storm build in intensity around them (think the movie The Shining for inspiration).

My first thought was to include in the countdown the storm growing in intensity. However my concerns with that is that the countdown may not happen due to hunter involvement. I then thought of creating a special move that I could invoke but am not really sure on how to set that up. Since it’s not really sure how to space out the invoking of the move. Or how would that get triggered.

Does any other GMs have any ideas on how they would accomplish this idea? Or if I missed something in the book that can help, can you point me to it?

Thanks. 😀

I’m a french gamer, and Monster of the Week is coming soon in French.

I’m a french gamer, and Monster of the Week is coming soon in French. So I’ve made up two Mysteries (more to come ?) in French. But, hey, why not translating them in english ? I’ve been inspired by the many Mystery Starters seen here, so it’s normal to pay you back !

Here’s the first : Grumpy Bear. With a Bear, of course. Set in Colorado.

Available as PWYW on DTRPG. English not being my mother language, I’ll collect any corrections / typos / stuff to correct this. Thanks & Happy Hunting !

BATMANTIS?

BATMANTIS?

BATMANTIS??? is a MotW mystery I’ve attempted to write based (loosely) on the events of What the Hell Did I Just Read? By David Wong and the universe of the John Dies at the End (JDATE).

I’ve only listened to AP podcasts of MotW and haven’t had a chance to play or Keep myself (I’m working on convincing my D&D group), so I’d love any advice or feedback the community has to offer.

JDATE is a book series featuring equal parts cosmic horror and dark comedy. The first book was also made into a fantastic movie by Don Coscarelli of Phantasm fame. For fans of the series, yes, I’ve taken unforgiveable liberties and cut huge swathes of plot in order create a semi-coherent narrative. Spoilers and BS ahead.

I created a couple of templates for Mysteries, which you’re welcome to use and copy. I started with a 3-column layout, but if the text is long, I found it not as easy to scan. So, I created a 2-column layout as well.

I use the following Google fonts, which you might have to install: Bangers, Oswald, Open Sans, Montserrat
