Just saw a CBBC TV production my daughter enjoys, called Wolfblood. Teenage werewolves are trying to negotiate life at school without their secret being discovered.

Parents of one girl are also werewolves hiding in human society, leading to interesting interactions at home too.

A slightly younger, high school crowd, but some nice scenes surrounding alienation, acceptance, dominance…werewolves as metaphor for teenage messiness. Good for a change of pace, though possibly a little tame for some here.

I would like to see a Monsterhearts campaign at this school. The fusty old BBC might raise an eyebrow at the Sex Moves though!

Really enjoy how they did the better idea of starting on season 2, episode 1 than starting in season 1. As in many sci-fi/supernatural shows, season 1 is good to set the stage but season 2 is where the cast gets to have fun with the story/characters now that the introductions are mostly out of the way.

Great job to everyone in this & would love to hear more actual plays of Monsterhearts or other similar AW systems.

This is a skin I have been sitting on for a while. I think it is pretty decent but focuses a bit on combat. I have had two players test it out in games I have run and so far they have turned out to be pretty neat characters. I based the skin off of such historical myths as Erzebet Bathory and the Fountain of Youth along with media like the Highlander series. PDF by Steven Pope and skin by Sawyer Rankin.

New skins and credits

I realised from a recent matter that I wasn’t aware of any community standards or guidelines around Skin design and crediting. Thinking on it, in any Skin, there is the creative work of several folk involved – the Skin designer, the artist, Avery, D. Vincent Baker, as well as others as we are increasingly inspired by other skins we see and adapt moves they have. I am not a Skin designer myself and so am ill-placed to either point to standards or guidelines that already exist or discuss what guidelines there should be.

What I can do is add a pinned post to the top of the Skins category here which includes a) links that are useful to Skin designers (e.g. to blank templates) and also b) guidelines as to how skins should be credited.

If there are Skin designers in this community who are able to point to:

– useful links

– existing community standards or guidelines as to crediting

– or would be interested in writing such

then please reply with your thoughts in this thread.

Alright, here we go:  Draft #1 of The Pixie.  Here are the Moves and Darkest Self that I have planned so far.

Alright, here we go:  Draft #1 of The Pixie.  Here are the Moves and Darkest Self that I have planned so far.

Anything to Help

If someone without the Pixie’s Friend Condition gains 5 Strings on you they gain the condition Pixie’s Friend and you mark Experience.

Anytime you Lash Out at someone, you take a penalty equal to the number of Strings they have on you.

Eager to Please

When someone uses a String to offer you Experience for doing something, you carry 1 Forward to do what they ask and when you complete their request they also mark Experience.

Flirty

When you Turn On someone, you gain a bonus to your roll equal to the number of Strings they have on you.

Faerie Food

Anytime you prepare food or drink you can choose to enchant it by rolling Dark.  On a 10+ you may choose one effect from the following list to befall anyone that eats or drinks that food or beverage (as little as one bite or sip will do).  On 7-9 you choose one, and the MC chooses one (MC does not need to disclose their choice until after food/drink is imbibed).

– They gain the Drunk condition

– They gain the Hallucinating condition

– They gain the Amorous condition

– They suffer 1 Harm

– They become their Darkest Self until the end of the scene

– They fall asleep

Sprite

You can manifest translucent wings and fly.  Anyone that witnesses you in flight gains a String on you.

Tinker

You can perform any mundane chore or repair in 1/10th the normal time it takes, as long as it is for someone else.  Anyone that witnesses you working like this gains a String on you.

Silent Helper

If you spend time and/or resources to help someone else without them knowing about it, gain a String on them.  If you do it in such a way that they think someone other than you is responsible for helping them, give the string to this third party and also give that third party a String on you.

Darkest Self: All you do is give, give, give, and all they do is take take take…all of your effort to help and eagerness to please is soured into mischief and malice. Every string that someone holds on you is lost and becomes a string that you have on them. You will use them all to ruin lives and relationships however you can, but with lies and trickery if possible. You leave your Darkest Self either when no one has Strings on you and you have no Strings on anyone, or when someone gains two Strings on you.

Well, here it is.

Well, here it is.

Well, here it is. Just before the end of the month, the first of my 12 Chinese Zodiac inspired Skins. I give you The Rat.

I’m not entirely happy with it, but I have to move on and start working on next month’s Skin. Maybe I’ll come back and tweak at the end of the year.

I’ve never really been that big on DC superheroes, but someone pointed out to me that the reason Supergirl is interesting is because it asks the question, “What if you gave Superman’s powers to a volatile teenage girl?” And I thought “Volatile? They’ve got that in Monsterhearts!”

So I started thinking about how you’d go about a Monsterhearts hack about the messy lives of teenage superheroes… I guess you’d keep the boiling hormonal drama of the teen genre but swap the horror aspect for a focus on the clash between the desire for independence vs. the reality of responsibility? Would you limit their super-ness and focus on the changes they go through as their powers unlock, or give them their powers and focus on their struggles to fit in and be accepted by normal society? What do you think?

I was thinking about Carmilla (great webseries by the way) and how all the lead characters were obvious MH characters, but LaFontaine didn’t quite fit anything. So with them for inspiration I created The Mad Scientist. It’s very much a first draft right now; please tear it apart.
